26th of February, Opening Gala Concert, Teignmouth United Reformed Church, 8:00 pm Andres Izmaylov (St. Petersburg/Russia), Harp Solo Recital "Male Harp Masters: From Teignmouth to St. Petersburg" Andres Izmaylov, harp soloist of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, is the son and father of a harpist - a family of three generations of harpists. He is not only a descendant of the Russian harp school, but is also a composer himself. He will musically trace back a journey undertaken by Elias Parish Alvars in 1838, when he travelled to St. Petersburg and dedicated the Concertino op. 34 to the demoiselle d'honneur at the Court of the Tzaress. Works by Elias Parish Alvars, Albert Zabel, Niolas de Vitte and Andres Izmaylov Followed by a reception at the Bay Hotel
27th of February, Gala Chamber Concert, St. James's Church, 6:30 pm (please note early start !) Florence Sitruk (Berlin/Germany), Elias Parish Alvars-Ensemble, "Elias Parish Alvars on stage January 1836" Having seen a Parish Alvars concert poster, which is now on display at Teignmouth Museum, Franco-German harpist Florence Sitruk will give us an inside view of how Elias Parish Alvars's artistic language and brilliance radiates through his concert programming. This concert is a precise reproduction of a historic concert from Vienna in 1836 using clarinet, voice, string quartet, and harp in works by George Onslow, Elias Parish Alvars, Heinrich Baermann, Theodore Labarre, etc. followed by a reception at the Bay Hotel
28th of February, Gala Closing Concert, St. James's Church, 8:00 pm, by "Première Artiste" Marielle Nordmann (Paris/France) "Concert pour Elias..." 200 years to the day since his birth, French Harpist Marielle Nordmann will celebrate with us Elias Parish Alvars's enormous artistic legacy, his cosmopolite thinking, and his farseeing personality, in a very special musical florilège which will make us understand what Teignmouth's musical son means to her.

Symphonic Gala Concert Date to be announced in late 2008 Concertos by Elias Parish Alvars in D-minor for two harps and orchestra, op. 91, in C-minor, (première from the manuscript) and E flat Major, op. 98, for harp and orchestra, as well as his symphonies. Soloists: Marielle Nordmann (France), Andres Izmaylov (Russia), Florence Sitruk (Germany), etc.. |
