epa-festival 2011: Elias Parish Alvars on Tour (Albi/France, Vilnius/Lithuania) |
|
|
News come in Twos…
As the saying goes, we have some good news and some bad news. This years Elias Parish Alvars Festival will have to be cancelled. The reason for this is that two major sponsors will not be able to support the festival this year, and without a certain amount of financial backing the festival cannot be held. We have tried to find other possible sources of sponsoring, however, there was not enough time to procure the necessary funding.
This, however, by no means signals the end of the festival. We are in the process of developing new ideas as to from where the funding must come for next year. I am sure that Elias Parish Alvars himself was often faced by such problems, and even a master as great as he could not realize every project he set his mind to. I would like to invite any suggestions from you-the people of Teignmouth- if you can think of a possible source of sponsoring.
I also would like to thank the many people who have written to the festival asking about concert dates and possibilities for listening to master classes. Please know that we will be back next year and once again take over Teignmouth with the sounds of its favorite instrument.
As I mentioned before, news come in twos, and so it is there will surely be two additional visitors in Teignmouth next year. Although they are not scheduled to arrive until October, they have already listened to hours of Parish Alvars from directly behind my harp, and every day they and their interest are growing.
We are very much looking forward to returning to Teignmouth and are determined to bring back the festival next year. The people of Teignmouth have helped us to make the Elias Parish Alvars Festival a part of Teignmouths cultural calendar, and there it shall remain for the future.
Sincerely Yours,
Florence Sitruk and the Elias Parish Alvars Festival Team
