Celebration of the virtuoso composers
The theme of Elias Parish Alvars Festival 2010 is the celebration of the virtuoso composers of the 19th century. The 19th century brought fourth some of the most prodigious and talented performers in the history of classical music. Their new approach to music and their composition liberated the instrument to become an individual voice, no longer being confined by the musical traditions of the classical period. Prodigies such as Parish Alvars, who not only were masterful composers, but whose performances brought audiences to their feet in disbelief and awe. Paganini, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Popper were some of the legends who shared the exstatic and often difficult life of the virtuoso composer, and we want to dedicate this years festival to their music and lives.
This year we are honoured to welcome harpist Jana Bouskova, herself one of the most celebrated harp virtuosos of today. Bouskova is legendary in the harp world for her flawless technique and unchallenged as virtuoso performer.
The festival will include a masterclass for harp taught by Florence Sitruk, founder of the Elias Parish Alvars Festival, and Jana Bouskova. Classes will be taught at the Bay Hotel in Teignmouth, the home of the Elias Parish Alvars Festival. There will be solo and chamber music recitals, lectures, and a student recital featuring the students of this year's masterclass. Once again the festival will be joined by top string performers from Europe and the United States.
